For Christmas 2022, the company I work for issued a Return to Office mandate. The reason given was to restore the company culture…etc etc etc. ad nauseam.

No thank you sir, I believe I’ll stay here in my remote, undisclosed location.

After the first 6 weeks, they reduced the mandate to those living within a certain radius of physical office locations.

At the time of this writing, 6 months has passed since the RTO mandate was issued, and although they continue to push forward, they do not have the physical office space available to house the people that they are requiring to return to office. Obviously they are feverishly working to secure rental space to achieve the objective because we shall have company culture.

Some employees have returned to the available office space and are now telecommuting from their cubicles in the office to meet with those of us who stayed home.

Being a sensible and minimalistic bachelor, I am unfazed by it all. l save my money, have a generous emergency fund on hand and am very content with a simple life pursuing my hobbies, exploring the mountains, long motorcycle rides and a cigar after a fine meal now and then.
